Pros and Cons of Hiring a Social Media Manager
Is hiring a social media manager right for you?
If you’re anything like me, you are constantly short on time but your to-do list doesn’t stop growing. Social media promotion is an ongoing effort that takes a lot of time, planning, and energy. Outsourcing some of your tasks can be a great way to save time, but is it worth it? Just like anything else, there are pros and cons to hiring help, and when it comes to managing your social media, it’s definitely a mixed bag. Is hiring a social media manager right for you? Let’s check the pros and cons!
Pros
Less Stress: Consistent, planned posts without ever having to see the cesspool that social media can be? Yes please! If you find spending time on social media apps hard on your mental health, or you struggle to consistently post and promote without investing a huge amount of time in the process, a social media manager can help ease the burden.
Drop the Drama: If you get into petty arguments on social media, your followers can see that, and it IS hurting your brand. If you can’t help but get sucked into debates, arguments, and controversies, then a social media manager can help protect you from yourself. Get a burner account to fan the flames of disaster and hand over your work account to someone who can keep it professional.
Easy Interaction: Depending on the plan/options you’ve chosen with your social media manager, they might handle replying to comments or even DMs. Especially on non-chronological platforms like Instagram, interaction (likes and comments) are vital to getting better exposure, and having someone else handle those aspects of your account saves a lot of time.
Cons
It’s Hands-On To Be Hands-Off: Unfortunately, hiring a social media manager isn’t a “set it and forget it” kind of thing. You need to keep an eye on what they’re posting to your social media to make sure the posts match your brand, and you’re getting the level of service you paid for.
Content is King: You will still need to produce content (usually photos) for your social media manager to use on your accounts, and you’ll need to make sure you get them to your manager before they run out. For models that change their look (hair color, etc.) frequently, it can be a real challenge to keep your assistant up to date on which photos should be used.
The Price Isn’t Right: There’s no other way to say it: hiring help costs money. If you decide to outsource your social media to someone off Fiverr, it will cost a lot less than hiring someone with experience in adult industry-specific social media, but the results will probably be different. You need to find ways to measure the success of your social media campaigns to make sure the results you’re getting are in line with the price you’re paying.
